1. Accessing the 'Upvote' Section
To access the 'Upvote' section of ProductHQ, follow these steps:
- Open a web browser and visit app.producthq.io. This website is for admin only, users may access this section using the public board created and shared by the admin.
- Log in to your ProductHQ account using your credentials.
- Once logged in, you will be redirected to the 'Upvote' section.
2. Viewing Existing Ideas
Upon entering the 'Upvote' section, you will see a list of existing ideas. Each idea will typically include the following information:
- Idea Title: A concise and descriptive title for the idea.
- Vote Count: The number of upvotes the idea has received.
- Comment count: The available comments made by the users and admin
- Created By: The name or username of the user who submitted the idea.
- Date Created: The date when the idea was submitted.
- Tags: Useful for searching and categorising ideas
3.1 Submitting a New Idea as an Admin
To submit a new idea for consideration, follow these steps:
- Click on the "New Idea" button, usually located in the top right corner of the page.
- Provide a descriptive title for your idea in the designated field.
- Add a detailed description of your idea, explaining its purpose, benefits, and any relevant information.
- If you have created tags, they will appear under the description. You can choose up to three tags per idea. If you have not created any tags, click the "Manage Tags" button. This will navigate you to the Tags section, where you will be able to create tags.
- You can select the status for your idea as ‘Under Review, Planned, In Progress, Completed’ depending on the categories you added to your Roadmap Section.
- Click the "Submit Idea" button to submit your idea for review.
3.2 Submitting a New Idea as a Contributor
- An admin will need to create a default or custom domain and make it available to their users. Once the URL is created, the admin usually adds the url to the header or footer of their website.
- The user will navigate to the admin's public board, where they will find the upvote, roadmap, and what's new features.
- From the Upvote or Roadmap section, a user can click the "New Idea" button located in the top right corner of the page.
- The user can provide a descriptive title for their idea in the designated field. Make sure the title clearly conveys the essence of your suggestion.
- They can add a detailed description of their idea, explaining its purpose, benefits, and any other relevant information. It should be as clear and concise as possible to help others understand your proposal.
- Once they have completed the necessary information, they click the "Submit Idea" button to submit your idea for review.
- Congratulations! The idea has been successfully submitted. Now, it will be visible to others who can vote and provide feedback on it.
Remember that the success and implementation of an idea depends on various factors, including its feasibility, alignment with the product's goals, and the number of upvotes it receives from the community. Encourage others to vote for your idea and engage in constructive discussions to further develop and refine it.
4. Voting for Ideas
Voting for ideas helps prioritize them and gauge community interest. To vote for an idea, follow these steps:
- Navigate to either the Upvote or Roadmap section.
- Use the search bar at the top of the page to search for an idea.
- Click on the upvote button (usually represented by an arrow pointing upwards) associated with the idea.
- The vote count for the idea will increase by one, and your vote will be recorded. You can only vote once per idea. If you click the upvote counter again, your vote will be removed.
5. Filtering Ideas
The 'Upvote' section includes filtering options to help you find relevant ideas quickly. Common options include:
- Filter by status: This enables you to display ideas with specific statuses (e.g., Under Review, Planned, In Progress). These statuses are the same headings in the roadmap so they will provide you with an idea of what stage of development the idea is in.
- Filter by statuses or tags: If applicable, you can filter ideas based on specific statuses or tags assigned to them.
